Occupational therapists (OTs) are licensed
professionals who work with other healthcare professionals including physicians,
nurses, physical therapists, social workers and speech therapists to meet the
client’s goals. OTs work in a variety of healthcare settings including
hospitals, rehabilitation centers, private practice clinics, nursing facilities
and schools. OTs use occupations or activities to improve the client’s ability
to function independently.
Occupational Therapy
sessions are tailored to the individual based on the initial evaluation which
identifies strengths and areas of concern. A comprehensive approach is used to
evaluate the child. The therapist use standardized testing along with classroom
work samples if applicable, clinical observation, and teacher/parent input
regarding the child’s performance to complete the evaluation. Goals will be set
using a client-centered approach meaning that the parent/caregiver’s input will
be incorporated into the goal setting process. A doctor’s prescription is
required for medical conditions. |
